1. Briggs and Stratton P2400 Review

Engine Design

It’s powered by a 4-stroke, 79cc Briggs and Stratton Engine. To reduce wear and tear, it uses Low oil shutdown feature to turn off the engine when the oil is low.

It operates at a noise rating of 62 decibels; quiet from 60 feet away. The engine is mounted on Super Lo-Tone Mufflers to absorb vibrations from the engine.

The Overhead Valve Technology and mufflers keep the cost of servicing low.

User Interface and controls

The P2400 has a standard control panel .There are LED indicators for fuel, overload and Oil levels.

It has a Quiet power Technology (QPT) activated by a switch. This adjusts the engine speed to reduce noise, fuel consumption and power output. For easy startup, it uses recoil pull back.

You can plug in your house or RV to the 2, 230V, 15 Ampere outlets. In Case your appliances use Direct current (D/C), there’s a 12V, 5A D/C Port. There are additional 2 USB ports.

To increase the power supply, you can connect two identical units through the parallel port.

Fuel Consumption

The Stratton 2400 has capacity of 3.7 Liters and runs on Petrol. This gives you a runtime of 4 hours at 50% load and 2 hours at 100% load.

Power Output and Applications

It delivers a continuous wattage of 1800W and Peak wattage of 2400W.This supplies Power of 2.4 Kilovolt Ampere (kVA) at a frequency of 50HZ.

It can power your home power backup, a camping site or RV.

For More Power, the Stratton supports parallel connection to the P2200W, P3000W or an identical unit.

Its CARB (California Air Board) certified and can be operated in all states.

Voltage regulation

The Stratton 2400W is an Inverter Generator. The inbuilt inverter has a pure sine wave control alternator. This keeps the harmonic distortion below 5% making it safe for use with voltage-sensitive devices.

The Stratton 2400 outputs 240 Volts for alternating current A/C and 12Volts for the Direct Current (D/C).

Portability

The Stratton 2400 is fully portable with a compact design and 23 Kilograms of Weight.  It’s fitted with a 2-person H-Beam Carry handles for easy moving by one or two people.

2. Briggs and Stratton 4500W #030807

Engine Design

The Stratton is powered by a 224cc 4-stroke OHV Briggs and Stratton Engine. To increase generator lifetime, it has a Low Oil Shutdown feature.

To reduce the effect of engine vibration on its components, it’s mounted on Super Lo-Tone mufflers. These absorb and deflect the vibrations increasing its lifetime.

The Quiet Power Technology (QPT) allows you to adjust the engine speed controlling noise, power output and fuel consumption

User Interface and Control

The Stratton 4500 is powered on by a push button or a remote through electric start. This requires a backup battery that’s provided with the unit.

It has two control panels. The front panel has RV-ready 120V, 30A outlet. To monitor your Generator, it has LED indicators that show the fuel and Oil levels. Below the Fuel indicators, there’s a voltage, frequency and runtime LED display. Additionally, you can view the runtime through your phone.

The side panel has 4 120V, 20A power outlets supplying current in A/C (Alternating Current).

There’s a stand-alone RV-ready outlet supplying 120V, 30A of power. It has 2 USBs for on the go phone charging.

Fuel Consumption

It has a capacity of 13.2 liters that gives you a runtime of 16 hours at 25% load of Gasoline.

Power Output and Applications

The Stratton 500 gives you a continuous running wattage of 3700 Watts and a peak wattage of 4500 Watts.

Its suitable for home power backups medium sized Campsites and lightweight commercial applications. Unlike other flagships, it does not support parallel connections

There’s Carbon Monoxide Guard that monitors CO build-up around the Generator. When the levels are high, the Guard turns off the Generator. This feature and low emission rates make it CARB compliant.

Voltage Regulation.

To stabilize the current, the Stratton 4500 has an inbuilt inverter. This stabilizes stabilizes the harmonic distortion to 3%.

It delivers a voltage of 120Volts in Alternating Current (A/C).

How does Briggs and Stratton compare with other brands?

1. Briggs and Stratton 4500W Vs Honda 4500W

Engine Design

Where are Briggs and Stratton generators made? The Stratton uses a 224cc, OHV Briggs and Stratton Engine with a noise rating of 66dB. It’s mounted on Super Lo Tone mufflers to absorb and deflect its vibrations. The Quiet Power Technology (QPT) allows you to adjust the engine speed controlling the noise, power output and fuel consumption.

The Honda 4500 runs on a more powerful Honda GX270, 270cc OHV engine. It operates at a noise rating of 67dB.

Compared to the Honda EG 4000W, the Super Lo Tone mufflers and QPT make the Stratton quieter.

User Interface and Control

While the Stratton 4500 is started by a push button or a remote, the Honda uses an engine knob-switch. This requires a backup battery that’s provided with the unit.

The Honda uses recoil start and does not require a battery backup.

The front panel of a Stratton has one RV ready 120V, 30A outlet and 4 120V, 20A outlets on the side panel. For monitoring , there’s a display showing fuel and Oil levels.

Below the Fuel indicators, there’s a voltage frequency and runtime LED display. Additionally, you can view the runtime through your phone.

The Honda has 3 120V outlets and one 240 Volts outlet. For switching between the dual voltages, there’s a toggle switch on the control panel. It lacks fuel, oil or runtime displays.

About Steve Stuart

Steve Stuart is an electrical engineer who developed interest on generators during his school years. After school, he became a generator enthusiast. This is after encountering power supply problems at the area of residence where he lived. Power would be on and off and so food would go bad and the room heater would go off especially during winter. After trying the different generator brands for several years, Steve now provides information on the available brands and products in the market today. Based on his experience, he gives the do’s and the don’ts when it comes to generator use.
